Detailed Insight of Stone Column Method of Ground Improvement:

Soft clay base soils are less respondent to the process of deep harsh method of compaction. In order to enhance these cohesive soil types and construct huge structures, builders need to create a hardcore surface to the original soft soil.

The stone column method is also commonly known as the vibro-replacement and the vibro-displacement. This is a ground improvement technique, which uses the vertical columns of compacted aggregates piers and these aggregates are injected to the soil that is to be improved. These insertions of columns result in enhancing the load bearing capability and increase the mass of soil, thus improving its quality.

Special vibratory probes are utilized in the process of installation of these stone columns, these probes generally are in a horizontal mode of vibration. These columns have a diameter of two to five feet, depending on the condition of the soil and the desired model of construction ground improvement.
